It’s easy to forget. I decided to look through a batch of photos in my collection from almost six years ago. Many hadn’t even been edited. The beauty of where I’d been jars me. It echoes better in my mind now that I scroll through these images again. I am not sure if I’ll ever be in as stunning of a place as southwestern Bolivia again. Everywhere you look is a shock to the soul. The vast and varied altiplano with its scattered settlements is so far removed from my daily life. But, I was there. I was there. I was there.

The only thing that softens a little bit the jealousy for not having been there (yet) is the fact that I’d be longing to go there again! I’m fascinated by all those photos, but the most interesting one, for me at least, is the first on the right hand column, the one of the approaching weather front. I’m so used to consider that Altiplano as a dry, barren land – with the salt pans, the towering volcanoes and everything – that the view of a thunderstorm disgorging water is really unusual. Matter of fact, I think it’s the first one I’ve seen coming from this side of the world! Thanks for sharing them.
Thanks so much! There were actually a few storms that moved through when I was there, and the weather can change quickly. It wasn’t very comfortable to get out of our vehicle to get that photo (it was sleeting) but I am glad I did! I really hope you can make it out there one day. :)
Leah, we were just in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile this winter. Very similar scenery – stunningly beautiful.
Oh, that is great! Just on the other side of the mountains in some of those photos. When I go back, I’d like to make it across the border. It’s wonderful you did that trip!
Beautiful photos, Leah ; )
Thanks!
Agreed! i think SW Bolivia (and actually all of Bolivia) is one of the most beautiful countries! So stunning. Amazing pictures!
Thank you! And yes, absolutely, out of everywhere I’ve been so far Bolivia really stands out.
Breathtaking photos. It’s so therapeutic to look back at photos taken at the places that blew the mind. I do it often and it gives me a renewed sense of fulfillment.
Thanks, Julie! I agree, and I should do it more often!
Simply gorgeous photos. Since I’ve never been, I kept saying, “I wish I was there, I was I was there….”
Thank you! I hope you can visit one day, but I know the feeling as I think the same when I’m reading t about many other places I haven’t yet been to. :)
